I had to make one of the hardest decisions of my life this past weekend.  My Bear, the fighter, just couldn’t fight anymore.  Cancer was just too much for him.  At the beginning of the month, I took him to see the vet because he had a cough.  I thought his valley fever was acting up or getting worse.  They decided to  do x-rays since they thought it might be bronchitis.  Turns out his whole chest was full of tumors.  We got it checked out more and found out it was cancer, melanoma to be exact.  With Bear only being 6 years old, it was pretty shocking.

Bear has been a fighter his whole life.  I was at the shelter the day he was dropped off, he was only 5 weeks old.  Turns out he shouldn’t have been taken from his mom that early, he wasn’t eating normal food yet.  I was able to get him some puppy milk until he was ready to eat grain, but I thought I was going to lose him right away since he was so weak from not eating.  Then shortly after we moved into the house, he was bit by something (we still don’t know what).  Had to take him to the emergency clinic and get him hooked up to IV’s to flush the poison out.  His next battle was with valley fever, I took him into the vet because he was wheezing.  The vet diagnosed him with valley fever, but said it wasn’t a big deal.  Unfortunately, I didn’t know much about it so he wasn’t treated properly to begin with, which made his battle with valley fever a very long one.  Because of that though, I found another vet that is an amazing person.  His next battle was when he tried to eat a toad (another emergency room visit), it’s funny now, but wasn’t at the time.

Bear was always my lover dog, he would knock you down just to give you kisses.  🙂  Goodbye my friend, you will be missed greatly.
